PM Modi Tries To Mediate Peace Between Russia and Ukraine

As PM Modi tries to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine, Ajit Doval traveled to Moscow.

Russia is in contact with three countries about the situation in Ukraine, including India, according to Russian President Putin.

In the last two months, PM Modi traveled to Russia and Ukraine, where he met with Putin and Zelensky.

According to sources, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will visit Moscow this week to participate in talks aimed at ending the crisis between Russia and Ukraine. This follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-month journey to both Russia and Ukraine, when he met with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.

August 27, shortly after the Prime Minister's visit to Ukraine and his meeting with President Zelensky, he had a phone conversation with President Putin. According to a statement from the Russian Embassy, Prime Minister Modi told President Putin about his recent visit to Kiev and emphasized India's commitment to using diplomatic and political channels to bring about a settlement for Ukraine.

Sources claim that the leaders determined that NSA Doval would go to Moscow for peace negotiations during this phone discussion. At present, there are no available details about the visit's schedule.

"Vladimir Putin shared his principled assessment of the destructive policies of the Kiev authorities and their Western patrons, and went on to highlight Russia's approaches to resolving this conflict," Russian Embassy said of the phone chat.

The two leaders discussed the Russia-Ukraine situation, according to the Prime Minister's Office. "The Prime Minister talked about his recent trip to Ukraine. In order to achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution of the problem, he emphasized the significance of communication and diplomacy as well as real and practical interaction between all players, according to a PMO announcement.

On his official X account, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India's unwavering commitment to assisting in a "short-term, lasting, and peaceful resolution of the conflict."

The Prime Minister met Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, while he visited there last month. The crisis between Russia and Ukraine was mentioned during the discussion, and Prime Minister Modi stated, "India was never neutral, we have always been on the side of peace."

President Putin has mentioned Russia's three contacts with India over the situation in Ukraine. "We honor our friends and allies, especially China, Brazil, and India, who I believe really want to find a solution to all the problems surrounding this dispute. Regarding this matter, I communicate with our colleagues on a regular basis," Putin stated.

Other international leaders also believe that India can be crucial in helping to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, spoke with Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, yesterday. "China and India are important players in the dispute resolution process. "It is imperative that we reject the notion that the conflict can be resolved by leaving Ukraine to its fate," she reportedly stated, as reported by Italian media.

The globe is now deeply split over the Russia-Ukraine war, with most major states having chosen a side. However, New Delhi has always urged peace, emphasizing that "this is not an era of war" under Prime Minister Modi.

President Zelensky had stated that 37 people, including three children, had been killed by a Russian missile strike when Prime Minister Modi visited Russia in July and embraced President Putin. He had claimed it is "a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world's largest democracy hug the world's most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day". President Zelensky was embraced by Prime Minister Modi during his most recent visit to Ukraine, and the latter stated that the two had "honoured the memory of children whose lives were taken by Russian aggression." "All children should have a safe environment. We have to make it happen," he declared.
