Kedarnath, Uttarakhand: In a heart-wrenching incident, a helicopter ferrying pilgrims near the Kedarnath shrine crashed due to poor weather conditions and low visibility, killing all seven onboard. The incident occurred during early morning hours as thick fog enveloped the region.

What Caused the Crash? | दुर्घटना के कारण

According to early reports, the helicopter lost control after flying into dense fog, drastically reducing the pilot's visibility. The incident happened around 5:30 AM as the Aryan Aviation Pvt Ltd chopper took off from Kedarnath towards Guptkashi. Shortly after takeoff, communication was lost, and a massive search was launched.

प्राथमिक जांच में पाया गया कि केदारनाथ से उड़ान भरते ही हेलिकॉप्टर घने कोहरे में फंस गया और पायलट को रास्ता नहीं दिखा। दृश्यता शून्य होने की स्थिति में हेलिकॉप्टर नियंत्रण से बाहर हो गया और दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया।

Within minutes of receiving the alert, rescue teams were dispatched to the crash site in the Gauri Mai Khark forest area above Gaurikund. Despite the difficult terrain, emergency responders worked swiftly. Unfortunately, all onboard were declared dead at the scene. A fire broke out after the crash, complicating the situation.

CM Dhami has ordered a full-scale investigation and formation of a technical committee to create a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all helicopter services in the state. The SOP will include mandatory mechanical checks and real-time weather assessments before takeoff. It will also ensure that only highly experienced pilots operate in high-altitude Himalayan zones.

This crash is the second such incident in Uttarakhand this year. On May 8, another helicopter crash in Uttarkashi claimed six lives. On June 7, yet another helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing en route to Kedarnath. Though passengers survived, the pilot was injured.
