In the midst of the Paschimbanga Chattro Samaj student organization's "Nabanna Abhiyan" march to the State Secretariat, West Bengal police have dispersed protesters assembled at Howrah Bridge using water cannons. Moreover, the police reported that they had 94 arrests.

Earlier, as the "Nabanna Abhiyan" protest march got underway on Tuesday in Kolkata's College Square, a sizable audience assembled there.

In the midst of the ongoing controversy surrounding the rape and killing of a resident physician at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Paschimbanga Chattro Samaj, a student organization, announced on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, a "March to Nabanna," calling for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resign. The West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front declared in an official statement that they did not organize the student rally and that they would not be taking part in the march.

In anticipation of violence during the march, which is set to start at 2 p.m., thousands of police have been stationed throughout Kolkata and major routes leading to the Secretariat have been blocked.
