The first official image of "Jurassic World Rebirth," the seventh installment in the 31-year-old franchise starring Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Scarlett Johansson, has been made public by Universal. Director Gareth Edwards ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "The Creator") is working with a script written by David Koepp, the man behind the 1993 original "Jurassic Park."

The movie will take place five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion," when "the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs," according to an official synopsis.

The summary goes on, "Those that remain live in remote equatorial settings with temperatures similar to those in which they previously flourished." "The secret to a medication that will miraculously save humankind's lives lies in the three largest organisms found in that tropical biosphere."

Numerous character information from the movie were also made public by the studio. Zora Bennett, played by Johansson, is a specialist in clandestine operations who has been assigned to head the team responsible for obtaining DNA samples from the three largest extant dinosaur species. Ali portrays Duncan Kincaid, Zora's partner; Bailey, Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist; and Rupert Friend, of "Homeland," as Martin Krebs, the representative of the drug company sponsoring the expedition. The remainder of Zora's team consists of Ed Skrein ("Deadpool"), Bechir Sylvain ("BMF"), and Philippine Velge ("Station Eleven").

After coming upon a civilian family "whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos," they find themselves all stuck on an island where they have to confront a startling and deadly revelation that has been kept a secret for many years.

Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked family that includes Luna Blaise ("Manifest"), David Iacono ("The Summer I Turned Pretty"), and Audrina Miranda ("Lopez vs. Lopez"), is portrayed by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo ("The Lincoln Lawyer").

Jim Spencer, Denis L. Stewart, and Steven Spielberg serve as executive producers, while Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are the film's producers.

The opening date of "Jurassic World Rebirth" is July 2, 2025.
