Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, bienvenue au Paris!

On July 26, at a soggy Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, Dion stole the show with a stirring performance. After being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, it was her first public performance in years.

View of singer Celine Dion performing atop the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on July 26, 2024, is shown in this handout provided by the Olympic Broadcasting Services.

The cauldron was ignited, and she performed "Hymne à l'amour" by Edith Piaf. Her performance was instantly praised on social media.

Dion sent a message on social media expressing her gratitude for being invited to play at the opening ceremony and her excitement at returning to one of her favorite places.

She posted a slideshow of event images along with the statement, "Most of all, I'm so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance." "I hope that by being here, it means that your dream has come true, even if you don't win a medal! You have all been so focused on it! We all know how hard you have worked to be the finest of the best, therefore you should all be really proud of yourself. Remain focused and persevere, my dear.

Which song was performed by Céline Dion at the Olympic Games in Paris?

In a scene that became instantly famous, the "Power of Love" vocalist sang the French artist Édith Piaf's "Hymne à l'amour" from the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

In the Amazon Prime Video documentary "I Am: Céline Dion," the Grammy-winning singer talked about her struggle with stiff-person syndrome. It was revealed that the 56-year-old French-Canadian diva was on the verge of death due to the illness.

Viewers of the Olympics witnessed Lady Gaga sing a chic song at the opening ceremony earlier.

At the opening ceremony, Gaga makes a spectacular appearance.

She paid homage to French dancer and actress Zizi Jeanmaire by serenading the gathered audience with "Mon Truc En Plume." Throughout the performance, she was accompanied by a number of dancers carrying pink feather fans.

Gaga later posted on social media that she was "absolutely grateful" for the chance.

"Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music — I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth — Paris," she said.

The 56-year-old Dion seems to imply in recent months that she could visit Paris at some point.

She mentioned a famous Parisian location when revealing to Vogue France in April that she had been exercising "like an athlete" to maintain both her physical and vocal health.

She told the journal, "I've chosen to work with a medical team with all of my body and soul, from head to toe." "I wish to reach my full potential. I want to visit the Eiffel Tower once again.

Dion also disclosed on Instagram that she was in Paris, posting pictures of herself visiting the Louvre, two days prior to the opening ceremony.

She captioned the photo, saying, "Every time I go back to Paris, I remember there's so much beauty and joy still to experience in the world." "I adore Paris, and I'm overjoyed to be returning! We are very grateful to our amazing friends at The Louvre!

Dion has been candid about her current health issues. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, she disclosed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that can produce severe muscle spasms, mental discomfort, sensitivity to noise and touch, and muscle stiffness.
