Due to maintenance, there will apparently be power outages in a number of Chennai neighborhoods on Friday, May 17. According to a Times Now article, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO) has declared a power outage in the regions of Pattabiram, Thandurai, and Sekkadu on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The media platform also stated that Tengedco will be replacing the AB switch at the Pattabiram substation and building a new power transformer. Recently, there were power outages in the area due to the fires in two power transformers; one of the transformers was replaced.

Chennai power outages in these locations

From Friday until noon, there will be a power outage in the following areas: Pattabiram, Thandurai, Iyyappan Nagar, Sekkadu, Gopalapuram East & West, Thendral Nagar, Mullai Nagar, South Bazar, Vallalar Nagar, Venkatapuram, Anna Nagar, C.T.H. Road, Charles Nagar, Drivers Colony, Modern City, Kamarajapuram, Sasthri Nagar, I.A.F. Road, and all surrounding areas.

In Tamil Nadu, 13 lakh more people pay their electricity bills.

Tangedco also reported an increase in the number of customers using online methods to pay their electricity bills. According to a study by The New India Express, the number of customers who chose to make payments online increased from 57.25 lakh in April 2023 to 70.20 lakh in April 2024.

During the same period, online bill collection went from ₹1,550 crore to ₹2,010 crore.

Major cities like Chennai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore, and Madurai have seen a significant increase in the number of people choosing to pay their bills online.
