Duke Notifies Wallace Wade Stadium's Brooks Field Playing Surface Updates

On Monday, Duke Athletics revealed their intention to renovate Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Starting in May, the Blue Devils will put in artificial turf that is colored Duke Blue. When Elon visits the Blue Devils for their season opener on Friday, August 30, the project will make its premiere. It is anticipated to take two months to complete.

The stadium was the first sports complex on Duke's West Campus, having opened in 1929. After former Blue Devil head coach Wallace Wade renamed Duke Stadium in 1967, Brooks Field was dedicated in 2015 in honor of alumnus Steve Brooks and his wife, Eileen.

The only previous renovations the facility has experienced are part of a three-phase plan that began after the 2014 season ended and ended before the 2017 season. The playing surface was lowered seven feet, the surrounding track was removed, and an LED videoboard was built during the previous renovation. Duke also added the 97,160-square-foot Blue Devil Tower, which features club and suite seats and a press box.
